Question:

I was diagnosed with HPV (the cervical cancer type) a couple of years ago. I had only slept with one partner - now we''re separated. I was wondering, we always gave oral sex to each other, even after I was diagnosed, could the virus have been passed on to our mouths. Is it safe for me to kiss anyone else?

HPV in the mouth is more uncommon and poses little risks.

I think most people would tell you to keep kissing.

It can be passed on to your mouth, but it is rare. Unfortunately, one of the cervical cancer types (hpv 16) causes about 30-40% of oral cancer and is related to a whole host of other cancers as well.

I don''t recommend oral sex at all if you know your partner has HPV.
